Sustainability & CSR

Doing Well By Doing Good begins with being best in class in our own ethical and responsible business practices. As an industry leader we set high standards for ourselves and others. We are guided in everything we do by our Values, our industry standards, the United Nations Global Compact Principles, and our own Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

In Malaysia, as a commitment to our company values as an ethical employer, we are among the founding members of the Promise of Integrity Alliance. This alliance started in 2016 to focus on upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity within the business community.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015 the United Nations set the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Included are 17 goals to improve the lives of people everywhere and protect the world we live in. At ManpowerGroup we’re big supporters of the UN agenda and have been since we signed up to the Global Compact in 2006.

We realize our impact is greatest against the specific goals that are closest to what we do, in and around the world of work. That’s why we’ve chosen four goals to focus on.

Human Rights and Fair Employment

Connecting people to meaningful employment has always been our purpose. And we have always been committed to carrying out that purpose in the most ethical and responsible way, with respect for individual dignity and fundamental human rights.

We are a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact; we respect and support Global Compact Principles on human rights and fair employment, and are committed to making these Principles part of our culture, strategy and day-to-day operations. Our standard practices are designed to protect and promote the rights outlined in the ILO’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work  freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labor, effective abolition of child labor, and elimination of discrimination in respect to employment.

We maintain a “zero tolerance” policy on human trafficking, forced labor and modern slavery. This includes our clients, suppliers and business partners. We will not knowingly do business with any entity that benefits in any way from the trafficking or abusive treatment of workers.

We provide public access to the ManpowerGroup Ethics Hotline for reporting concerns or suspected violations of our policies or the law. We commit to following up on all reports, and we will not tolerate retaliation for any reports made in good faith.

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe businesses have a responsibility to enable all people to participate in the workplace and achieve their potential. That’s why Diversity is a key aspect of our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and why we highlight Integration and Inclusion as one of the pillars of our Sustainability Plan.

As a global organization, with employees, candidates, clients and suppliers from every background, we value and encourage the broad range of perspectives and capabilities this diversity brings to our organization and to our stakeholders. We define diversity as differences of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, cultural background, gender, age, disability, caste, marital status, union membership, political affiliation, pregnancy, health, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Learning & Development

A culture of learnability is critical to the continued success of our business. We continue to invest in our online skills portal powerYOU®, to broaden and deepen the skills of our people. We have designated 2019 the Year of Learning and have designed learning pathways for all levels of the organization so they can develop the digital and human capabilities of benefit to them and our business in the Skills Revolution.

We are also leading the shift to become builders of talent, partnering with NGOs, governments and our clients to help young people develop their employability before they enter the labor market, and providing opportunities for people to acquire new skills and adapt to a fast-changing world of work.

Health & Safety

We care about the health and safety of our people as an integral part of our culture. That’s why our Health and Safety policy is incorporated into our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.

We seek to create a workplace and work systems that enable all employees to feel safe and secure. We focus on compliance with health and safety legislation within our own business operations and apply this same standard as a matter of priority when reviewing whether to place associates, contractors and consultants in a client's work environment. We will not knowingly allow our people to work in an unsafe work environment.

Responsibility for upholding these standards starts with our leadership, and is embedded throughout the organization. We expect everyone to comply with all health and safety regulations, policies and procedures, and provide appropriate training as befits the needs of each role.

Supply Chain Responsibility

We believe our values should be reflected and embraced by all of our partners throughout the supply chain. We expect our supply chain business partners to understand and commit to the principles outlined in our Supplier Code of Conduct, which is based on the United Nations Global Compact, the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work  and the Athens Ethical Principles.

In Malaysia, as a commitment to our company values as an ethical employer, we are among the founding members of the Promise of Integrity Alliance. This alliance started in 2016 to focus on upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity within the business community.

We maintain a "zero tolerance" policy on human trafficking, forced labor and modern slavery. We will not knowingly do business with any company that benefits in any way from the trafficking or abusive treatment of workers. We expect everyone to follow our policy when selecting and onboarding supplier partners.

Environmental Responsibility

We believe the world rests on the shoulders of the next generation. That’s why we are doing our best to grow our business without growing our footprint.

As an office-based company providing professional services and solutions, our environmental impact is relatively small. And we intend to keep it that way.  We have already reduced our energy consumption and resulting carbon footprint by swapping out older electronics; by consolidating our data centers; and by traveling less and using virtual collaboration more.

We communicate guidance for responsible environmental management across our global organization. We encourage our local operations to set goals and implement initiatives aligned to local market needs, and share good practices that can be adopted with minimal investment.

By reporting on key environmental data in our annual sustainability updates, we are promoting transparency and accountability.

We believe businesses have a responsibility to contribute to a sustainable future.
